Garhwa: A minor dispute over the death of goats escalated into a deadly confrontation between two families in Garhwa district, leaving one man dead and four others seriously injured. The incident occurred in Dubiyathi Tola of Hesatu village, located within the Bargarh police station limits of Tehri Panchayat.
Accusations of Poisoning Lead to Violence
Tensions flared after three goats belonging to 55-year-old Suryadev Yadav died under suspicious circumstances. Yadav’s family accused Ramkishun Yadav (also known as Dubai Yadav) and his wife, Kawalia Devi, of poisoning the animals.
Following the loss, Suryadev Yadav sought intervention from the Panchayat head, Vinko Toppo. The situation turned violent when Suryadev attempted to photograph the dead goats with his mobile phone to gather evidence. Members of the accused family confronted him and launched a brutal assault.
The Assault and Casualties
Police report that approximately 11 individuals, including Ramkishun Yadav, Raju Yadav, Santosh Yadav, and Kawalia Devi, attacked Suryadev Yadav using sticks and a sickle.
- Fatal Injuries: Suryadev Yadav sustained grievous injuries and died at the scene.
- Family Members Injured: The attackers also severely injured Suryadev’s sons, Mahesh Yadav and Ganesh Yadav.
- Other Victims: Two other individuals sustained injuries during the altercation.
Medical teams rushed the injured to a local health facility for treatment. Due to the severity of his wounds, doctors referred Mahesh Yadav to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi for specialized care.
Police Action and Investigation
The Bargarh police arrived at the village shortly after the clash to restore order and sent Suryadev Yadav’s body for a post-mortem examination. Authorities have since tightened security in the area to prevent further escalation between the families.
Acting on a written complaint from the victim’s son, Ganesh Yadav, police registered a case of murder and attempted murder against 11 named individuals. The Sub-Divisional Police Officer confirmed that teams are currently conducting raids to arrest the suspects while a detailed investigation continues.
