Jamshedpur, Aug 3: State food and civil supplies minister Saryu Roy laid the foundation stone for the construction of new building of DM Library in Sakchi on Saturday.
The building, proposed to be five-storeyed, would be built at an expense of Rs 13 crore. It will have a modern library along with a multi-purpose convention hall. The visitors will also be able to avail digital library facility by getting connected to DM Library, sources said.
�DM Library is a heritage of steel city. But due to lack of maintenance and care, the library fast became dilapidated and lost its glory. Due to the library�s heritage value and importance for society, it was decided to modernize it. People will get to read newspapers and numerous books here. Old books kept here would be digitalized so that they are conserved and at the same time are available online to readers,� he said.
Roy said the library building would have a number of facilities for the visitors. He said the library should be run and maintained properly.
