Thrilling Battles Mark Second Round of 54th National Junior and 39th National Girls Chess Championship
Jamshedpur, December 17: The second round of the 54th National Junior Chess Championship and the 39th National Junior Girls’ Chess Championship witnessed several thrilling encounters on Wednesday, with top players asserting their dominance while a few surprise results added excitement to the tournament.

Saraikela-Kharsawan Deputy Commissioner Nitish Kumar Singh and Superintendent of Police Mukesh Lunayat visited the competition venue during the day to review the arrangements. Both officials inspected the facilities and praised the organisers for the smooth and disciplined conduct of the prestigious national event.

In the Junior Open category, International Master Ethan Vaz, rated 2500, registered a convincing win over Shaurya Paul (1969). Another strong performance came from IM Mayank Chakraborty (2465), who defeated Mehul Sondhi (1961). One of the biggest upsets of the round saw Moxit Shah (1974) overcome higher-rated Vignesh Advait Vemula (2428), drawing attention from players and spectators alike.

The girls’ section also produced intense battles. Sunetra Dey (1871) caused a major surprise by defeating top seed Sherali Patnaik (2270). Woman FIDE Master Shubhi Gupta secured a win against Shreya G. Hipparagi, while Woman Candidate Master Swara Lakshmi S. Nair (2113) defeated Ashwinika Mani R. (1848) in a closely fought match.

With strong contenders continuing their winning runs and unexpected results shaking up the standings, the championship is set for more exciting rounds ahead. Players from across the country are expected to put up tough competition as the battle for the national titles intensifies.
