Jamshedpur, April 30 : The 28-year-old youth, Ankush Thakurta, whose body was found lying at the basement of an under-construction building at Bistupur on Saturday, is suspected to have been murdered.
The murder victim was a student of Ghaziabad-based Institute of Management Technology and was doing his internship at the Telco branch of the HDFC Bank. From a fortnight he was staying at a rented house in South Park area of Bistupur.
Though police are yet to reveal about the circumstances under which Ankush — a black belt in karate — found dead, the Bistupur market is gripped with talks that the youth was lynched by about a dozen staff of a beer bar.
An eyewitness of the whole incident revealed that a group of four youths, including Ankush came at the beer bar at about midnight.
“The youths were drunk and came in front of the beer bar where they asked for liquor. But, as the bar was already closed and staff were gathered outside it, one of them asked the group of four to return back.
But as the man from the beer bar advised them to go back, one of the four talked in filthy language to the man, who was probably some of from the beer bar management�,� he noted. Subsequently, he asked the staff to assault him. Then about a dozen staff pounced on him and thrashed him severely by taking him toward the under constructed building.
The next morning I came to know that the police have recovered body of a youth from the basement of the under-constructed building,” said a 22-year-old youth who had watched the whole episode.
OC, Bistupur police station, Srineewash claimed that he has registered a case under unnatural death on his own FIR.
” It is too early to comment.
We have not much information about the death of the youth under mysterious condition. We are waiting for the post-mortem report,” said the OC. The murder vicitm was the only child of his widow mother, Sunita who works in State Bank of India at Rourkela. His father Ashok Thakurta, basically from Bengal had died six years ago.
Ankush’s uncle Arun Thakurta, who had rushed the steel city on getting the news said “We are in state of shock. Ankush had on Saturday night rang to her other, Sunita.
On being queried, he had claimed that he was in his room, but he lied as he was out in the market that time. From this point we also suspect that Ankush might have indulged in some sort of objectionable thing that night.”
