Jamshedpur: Irked over alleged hooliganism shown by several students of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College at Dimna Road late yesterday evening, local traders kept their shops closed in protest on Wednesday while demanding arresting of all the culprits.
The traders demanded stringent action against the medical students and threatened to go on indefinite agitation in case their demand was not fulfilled soon. They locked the MGM Medical College gate in the morning. Later police persuaded the traders to open the gate while assuring to arrest the hooligans.
Meanwhile, police detained two students for questioning in connection with yesterdays incident. The SSP Amol Venukant Homkar said the culprits will not be spared at any cost. He said FIR will be lodged against the guilty students.
MGMCH students went on rampage in the shops at Dimna Chowk and Hill View Colony yesterday after several youths allegedly beat up some of them. They ran riot in the area for several hours after which local traders united against them and came out in protest.
Today none of the students could come out of the campus fearing attack by local traders and residents.
Local residents alleged that the students often indulged in such activities outside the college campus. They said the students should not be allowed to take to criminal activities and escape scot-free.
