New Delhi (IANS): A devastating fire tore through a multi-storey building in Delhi’s Palam area on Wednesday, killing at least seven people, including three children, and injuring two others. Officials said several people may still be trapped inside.
Firefighters rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the alert and launched a massive rescue operation. Authorities deployed around 25 fire tenders, while teams continued cooling, searching, and rescue efforts.
Officials confirmed seven deaths so far. In a desperate bid to escape the flames, two people jumped from the building and suffered injuries. Medical teams shifted them to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Preliminary reports indicate that the building has a basement, ground floor, and four storeys, along with a temporary tin shed on the roof. Occupants used the basement, ground, and first floors to store clothes and cosmetics, while families lived on the second and third floors.
Delhi Police teams reached the site, cordoned off the area, and ensured smooth rescue and security operations.
Authorities also stationed a Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS) ambulance and medical team at the site to provide immediate treatment and transport the injured.
Fire officials have not yet determined the exact cause of the blaze. Rescue teams remain focused on extinguishing the fire completely and evacuating anyone still trapped inside.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as relief and rescue operations remain underway.
Earlier in the day, another fire in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore claimed six lives. A blaze engulfed a three-storey house in the Tilak Nagar area during the early hours of Wednesday. Officials said the fire spread rapidly after a suspected short circuit, possibly linked to an electric vehicle charging outside the house.
The house belonged to a businessman identified as Manoj. More than 10 people were inside at the time of the incident. Rescue teams saved three individuals, but six others died in the fire, confirmed Indore Collector Shivam Verma.
