Jamshedpur: With a renewed focus on preventing road accidents and strengthening traffic discipline, the district administration on Saturday held an important review meeting on traffic management and road safety at the Collectorate auditorium.

Chaired by Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi, the meeting discussed measures to curb road mishaps, ensure strict enforcement of traffic rules, and expedite compensation in hit-and-run cases. During the review, officials revealed that 34 road accidents were reported in December, 2025, claiming 20 lives, with nearly 75 percent of the fatalities attributed to driver negligence—highlighting the urgent need for preventive action and greater public awareness.

Authorities revealed that 16 people lost their lives solely because they were riding two-wheelers without helmets. Other major causes of accidents included wrong-side driving, overspeeding, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

It was also reported that no accidents were recorded at previously identified black spots during December, indicating the effectiveness of preventive measures taken at those locations. The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need to intensify awareness campaigns on traffic rules among school and college students. He also directed officials to conduct continuous enforcement drives not only in urban areas but also across rural police station jurisdictions.

The excise department was instructed to closely monitor illegal sale or consumption of liquor around alcohol outlets. The Deputy Commissioner further directed that pending compensation cases in hit-and-run incidents be disposed of swiftly to ensure prompt financial relief to affected families.
