Coyle rues missed chances as Jamshedpur FC held by Mumbai City

Jamshedpur, April 10: Head coach Owen Coyle expressed strong disappointment after Jamshedpur FC were held to a dramatic draw by Mumbai City FC, insisting his side “should have won the game” after dominating proceedings at the Furnace.

Reflecting on the performance, Coyle was unequivocal in his assessment of the contest, highlighting Jamshedpur’s control from start to finish. “We should have won the game. From start to finish we were the better team,” he said. “We led the game all over the park and created the better chances.”

Despite that dominance, Jamshedpur found themselves trailing just before half-time, as Mumbai City scored with their first real opportunity a deflected effort that left the hosts frustrated. “We felt very aggrieved to be behind. It was a deflection and a moment where we should have dealt with the situation better,” Coyle added.

The second half saw relentless pressure from the Men of Steel, with waves of attacks testing the Mumbai defence. Coyle praised his side’s physicality and mentality, pointing to their ability to sustain pressure and keep pushing until the final whistle. “It was waves of attack, Jamshedpur after Jamshedpur. The players showed great physicality, strength and togetherness to keep coming back,” he said.

That persistence was eventually rewarded when Sarthak Golui headed home a dramatic late equaliser, continuing a pattern of late fightbacks that has defined Jamshedpur’s campaign.

“We put so much into the game and did enough to win. Against the team at the top of the table, we felt we should have joined them on points.”

Despite the frustration, the Jamshedpur coach remained optimistic about his team’s position in the title race. With five matches remaining, he stressed that the focus must now shift to converting strong performances into victories.

“We know every game is massive in this league,” Coyle said. “If we’re at our very best, every one of those games is winnable. We just need to turn these performances into three points.”
