Jamshedpur, March 18: With resurfacing of Covid-19 cases in the city, the administration has intensified drive against those not wearing masks. Rs 500 fine is being imposed on those for not wearing masks in public places.

The decision was taken in the wake of 46 fresh cases being reported in the district in the past 24 hours. Moreover, a 62-year-old doctor who was administered Covid-19 vaccine was tested positive in a test conducted at the MGM medical college hospital. The doctor who is posted at the MGM medical college hospital was tested positive along with his 56 year-old wife and 27-year-old son. According to information the doctor is affected very mildly despite having co-morbidity whereas his wife and son are down with the killer virus severely.

DC Suraj Kumar said that wearing face masks has been made mandatory for every citizen to prevent the spread of coronavirus. He said the decision was taken as they found many people visiting markets and moving on the streets without masks despite the spike in COVID-19 cases.
Meanwhile, another official said that anyone found not wearing a mask in public places will be fined Rs 500 for the first time and they would be sent to a quarantine centre if they were found not wearing a mask for the second time.

On Thursday, the traffic police carried out an intense checking drive in the localities which include Jugsalai, Golmuri, Mango, Sakchi and Bistupur. During this period, the district administration and police also assisted in action against the citizens coming to public places without wearing masks. Citizens who were found in public places spitting having a mask but not wearing were advised not to repeat such things and in some areas they were also given masks.

“ We have intensified the drive as cases are resurfacing in the city. We need to be careful and wear masks. Though the administration has been conducting awareness on the dangers of COVID-19 and precautions to be taken to prevent contracting and spreading of the deadly virus, the public have taken it lightly and have displayed their negligence,” said the official.
He further said that wearing a face mask, washing hands frequently and maintaining social distance are the only ways to avoid contracting the virus and also spreading it to others till COVID-19 vaccine is available. But people by not following these norms are displaying their negligent attitude, the official regretted. Moreover, persons over 65 years of age, persons with other diseases, pregnant women and children below ten years of age are advised to stay home except for essential services and health purposes.
