Saraikela/Jamshedpur: In a fierce encounter during a combing operation carried out jointly today between security forces comprising Seraikela-Kharswan police, 209 CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) Battalion and CRPF and Maoist outfit of Maharaja Pramanik faction at Ludurbera village in Lanji Pahadi forest in the border of Saraikela-Kharsawan and Khunti, a Cobra jawan identified as
Vishram Lal received gunshot injuries in his left thigh.
The injured Cobra jawan was taken to Khunti from where he was airlifted by a chopper to Medica Hospital in Ranchi where his condition is stated to be critical.
SP Saraikela-Kharswan, Chandan Kumar Sinha said that several rounds of firing took place during the encounter which lasted for two hours. The police official said that till the filing of report they could not ascertain the casualties or injuries inflicted on the Maoists outfit.
The police and paramilitary forces have also beefed up vigil in the Maoist infested areas of the district. Sources informed that the police are frisking commuters in the bordering areas. At some places common people are also being interrogated by police and paramilitary force on suspicion. Forces have been deployed at strategic locations.
�Security has been beefed up in the area and strict vigil is being kept on movement of the Maoists. The plan is to keep a tab on the camps being operated by ultras,� said another official.
