Jamshedpur, January 24: Kerala Public School (KPS), Burmamines organized annual Sports Day at the J.R.D. Sports Complex on January 24, 2026, with great enthusiasm and student participation. Colonel Ernest Paul, Senior Executive Pilot of Tata Steel, graced the occasion as the chief guest. A distinguished alumnus of Loyola School and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, Colonel Paul was welcomed with a bouquet by the school’s Chairman, Dr. Srikant Nair. Chairperson Manorama Nair and Academic Director Dr. Rachna Nair were also present.
The programme began with flag hoisting and the lighting of the torch, followed by an impressive march past led by Plus Two students. Challenger, Conqueror, Victor and Champion Houses, along with NCC cadets, took part in the parade. Addressing the students, Colonel Paul highlighted the importance of sports alongside academics for the all-round development of children and shared his personal experiences. Chairman Dr. Srikant Nair urged students to play with discipline, stressing that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body.
Students enthusiastically participated in various track and relay events. A colourful drill display by the children captivated the audience. Outstanding performers were awarded prizes for their achievements. Challenger House emerged as the winner of the march past and also secured the overall champion’s trophy, while Champion House finished as the runner-up. Ayush Kumar Singh won the Best Athlete award in the boys’ category, and Aarushi Verma received the Best Athlete award in the girls’ category.
School Principal Priyanka Barua said Sports Day helps students understand teamwork, leadership and camaraderie. The event was conducted by teachers Lakshmi Kumari and Anisha, with the vote of thanks proposed by Vice Principal Gaurav Banerjee. The programme concluded with the national anthem.
