
Jamshedpur Sept. 20: Tata Steel announced the third edition of its Annual Event �A Celebration of Sports� to commemorate the contribution of Sir Dorabji Tata to sports.� It will feature Pullela Gopichand, the legendary badminton player who was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2014 and brought many laurels to the country.
Pullela Gopichand will put forth his views at a fascinating deliberation to be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 4:00 PM at the Fasy Auditorium, Loyola School. It is a unique opportunity for sports lovers as well as for the citizens of Jamshedpur to listen and interact with this international badminton hero. The event will be anchored by the eminent sports journalist and author Boria Majumdar.
While last year the stellar event saw Hockey legends Zafar Iqbal and Ric Charlesworth put forth their experiences and views about Hockey and Sports in general, the first edition of �A Celebration of Sports� in 2017 featured India�s first Individual Olympic Gold medallist Abhinav Bindra and Ms. Karnam Malleswari, India’s First Woman Olympic Winner. Boria Majumdar anchored both the previous two editions in his distinctive style.
Invitation cards for the event are available at JRD Tata Sports Complex, Corporate Communications Department at Armoury Road and Centre for Excellence. Seating will be on a first come first serve basis after the hall opens at 3:40 PM.
In addition to steering the Tata group as Chairman (1904 � 1932), Sir Dorabji Tata (1859 � 1932) also played an immensely significant role in the development of Sports in India as the Founding President of the Indian Olympic Association (1927). He was instrumental in India�s participation in the 1920 Antwerp Olympics and the 1924 Paris Olympics, personally taking care of some of the expenses for the Indian contingent.
