District administration holds workshop on accounting of poll expenses

Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner cum Returning Officer Amit Kumar Sunday held a meeting to inform Lok Sabha election candidates and various political parties about Election Commission�s directive on poll expenses and accounting by candidates.
Kumar, giving presentation at a workshop organized at Jamshedpur Collectorate auditorium, said it was compulsory for all candidates to get their expenses account register inspected by the district administration thrice two days before election day. He said the first inspection of accounts register is to be done within three days of filing of nomination papers by the candidates, or else the district administration would withhold permission to hold meetings, use vehicles or other facilities. Every candidate can spend or transact a maximum amount of Rs 10,000 in cash during elections, he said.
The DC further said that candidates may keep cash up to Rs 50,000 for their own expenses. Half amount of expenses incurred by star campaigners would be added to the expenses account of candidates, he said.
Kumar and other district officials asked candidates and representatives of various political parties to make correct entries of expenses in the registers maintained by them. In case a candidate joins a party, the expenses of that party would be added to his expenses, said Kumar.
