Jamshedpur: Unidentified burglars made away with ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh from Tanya Jewelers, a shop situated in Shastrinagar, block number 3, in Kadma police station area late yesterday night.
Investigators said the culprits entered the shop by picking the locks on the shutter. The lock was found to be broken early this morning by Navneet, proprietor of the said shop.
Kadma police have registered an FIR in this connection on the complaint of Navneet. They said the burglary seems to have been committed in the wee hours.
The culprits took advantage of darkness when there is hardly anyone near the shop. There was no security guard at the shop. This proved a boon to the burglars who easily stole away the valuables kept in the shop, said a senior police official who visited the shop in the morning.
Police officials pressed into service sniffer dogs to get clues about the burglars. The dogs were taken to the shop following the lodging of the complaint in the morning. Cops said they were not in a position to speak about the progress in probe as it could affect the line of investigation.
Local residents alleged that police slackness and inadequate patrolling in the area had led to the burglary. They said the police should ensure that the entire area is patrolled by police parties throughout night so that burglary attempts could be foiled.
