Jamshedpur: Chief Minister Hemant Soren today assured the agitating BBA and BCA students of Jamshedpur Womens College of taking necessary steps to resolve the issue related to the alleged refusal of the college to award them their original degrees.
Talking to the students who demanded that BBA and BCA degrees be given to them instead of B.Com degrees at Circuit House, the CM said appropriate action will be taken by the VC of Kolhan University and the district administration in this regard. He asked the DC of East Singhbhum Dr Amitabh Kaushal to look into the matter and get the issue resolved.
The BBA and BCA students had yesterday created ruckus on the college campus demanding professional degrees instead of B.Com degrees as reportedly being contemplated by the college administration. They said the college was planning to give them plain B.Com degree instead of giving them BBA and BCA degrees. They said their admissions were confirmed for the BBA and BCA courses by the college.
Giving a different degree than expected to the students is something beyond our understanding. How can the university give someone a degree other than the degree for which the admission was meant. It amounts to cheating and fraud since there is no logic behind it all, said one of the agitating students.
Yesterday, the students had barged into the chamber of the principal and alleged that the college administration had cheated on them by not giving them BBA and BCA degrees.
They said the college, despite having given them admission for BBA and BCA courses, was giving them B.Com degree which was both shocking and dismaying.
The principal Sumita Mukherjee today asked the agitating students to give up agitation on the campus as it was affecting academic activities.
She spoke with the help of public address system (PAS). She said she could do nothing to redress the grievances of the students. She said the students should contact the higher authorities in the university.
