Seraikela, Feb 19: In a macabre and heart wrenching act, a mother throttled to death her five-year-old son and hid the body for two days inside the house and carried out her daily chores in the Rajnagar area of Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
The matter came to light when a couple of villagers grew suspicious at the absence of the child and informed Rajnagar thana on Friday and the police recovered the body and arrested the mother at Bota village under Potka panchayat in Rajnagar thana area.
According to police, the mother Ashanti Tiu had throttled her five year old son Binit Tiu to death using ropes made of coconut whiskers on Wednesday and the body laid on the floor of the house for almost two days. The husband of the woman Mahendra Tiu who is admitted in Brahmanand Narayan Hrudyalaya for last few weeks and there was nobody int he house and was supposed to be discharged from the hospital on Wednesday and her father-in-law had gone to the hospital to bring back her husband.
When the villagers did not see the child they asked the mother but she said that the child is sleeping and should not be awakened.
When the villagers grew suspicious they informed her husband who was admitted in hospital and later on informed the police. On Friday morning police went to the house and recovered the body and also recovered the rope used in killing the child. The woman admitted before the police that she had killed the child in a fit of rage. Police sent the body for post mortem.
According to Rajnanagar thana OC, Shambhu Sharan Das, the woman claimed that she had got irritated as her husband has been admitted in hospital for so many days and in a fit of rage killed her son.
According to information, Ashanti Tiu is the third wife of Mahendra Tiu who is a manager in Cooperative Society Bank and his posting is always outside. and for the last few months had been suffering from some ailments and is undergoing treatment at the village.
Mahendra’s second wife stays in Chaibasa with her children and the first wife has left him. Villagers informed that there were frequent quarrel between Mahendra and Ashanti and Binit was their only child.
