Jamshedpur: An 80 year-old Sadhu, identified as Sri Sri Nigamanand Saraswat Ashram, situated in Manushmuriya under Barsole PS of Baharagora block, has been accused of attempting to rape an 11 year-old girl on Saturday last.
Sources said the minor had gone to the ashram to pluck flowers when she was allegedly called by the accused toward the temple to make garlands. The accused molested the girl and also tried to rape her, sources said.
The girl ran away from the temple and told her kin what had happened to her. Irked over what had allegedly transpired, the villagers rushed to the village and thrashed the old man. The girl�s parents informed police about the incident.
Police took the Sadhu to the police station for inquiry into the incident. They sent the girl to Baharagora Community Health Centre (CHC) for medical examination.
The accused is a native of Cooch Bihar (West Bengal). He has been staying at the ashram for the last two decades. He stays at the ashram with four other sadhus.
