Ranchi: Expressing concern over the prevailing political situation in Jharkhand, Babulal Marandi, the State BJP President, has called upon the Governor to protect the constitutional system from mockery. With less than a year remaining in the Assembly’s tenure, Marandi contends that holding by-elections for vacant seats becomes an impractical solution.
Marandi took a swipe at the Hemant government, alleging an atmosphere where criminals, intermediaries, and middlemen operate fearlessly in the state. Accusing the Chief Minister of engaging in unconstitutional activities, Marandi asserted that the party aims for the resignation of Sarfaraz Ahmed, an MLA, with the intention of appointing his wife as the Chief Minister.
However, he acknowledged the legal constraint that prevents Sarfaraz Ahmed’s wife from becoming an MLA in a reserved seat, as ruled by the High Court.
Drawing attention to a recent decision by the Bombay High Court Nagpur Bench, Marandi urged the Governor to seek legal advice, particularly from the Attorney General or a senior jurist, if confronted with a proposal for a new government or a change in the Chief Minister by Hemant Soren. This appeal aims to ensure that any decision aligns with constitutional principles and legal precedents.
