Jamshedpur, Dec 4: B.Ed students in Jharkhand are actively contributing to the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) survey, which aims to evaluate the educational levels of children in rural areas. The students, who underwent special training under the guidance of ASER trainers Amrit Pradhan and Lalit Nayak, have been conducting door-to-door surveys in various villages.
The ASER survey is a key initiative that helps assess the literacy and numeracy skills of children aged 3 to 16 years. For the first two days of the survey, B.Ed students visited 20 households, collecting basic household information and recording details of children within the specified age range. “We conducted the survey using the ASER test tool to evaluate the arithmetic and English skills of children, regardless of whether they were enrolled in school,” explained a B.Ed student involved in the survey.
The survey has been conducted across several regions, including Dhalbhumgarh, Ghatshila, Musabani, Gudabandha, Dumariya, and Chakulia. “This survey is crucial in understanding the educational gaps in rural areas and will help in shaping educational policies,” said Principal Dr. Balkrishna Behera. He also shared that the final report of the survey will be presented in Delhi in 2025, which will provide insights into the reading and learning levels of children aged 3 to 16 years.
Dr. Jitendra Kumar, the Nodal Officer, emphasized that this survey would serve as an invaluable research resource for B.Ed students. “The findings will not only assist in future educational planning but also enhance the students’ research capabilities,” he said.
The B.Ed students have already completed their fieldwork, and their findings have been submitted to the principal and department head. “We are proud of the students’ dedication in conducting this important survey, which will play a key role in shaping the future of rural education,” Dr. Behera added. Certificates were also awarded to the students for their participation and contribution to the survey.
