Awareness talk conducted at Manipal Tata Medical College Jamshedpur on organ donation

Jamshedpur, April 7: A seminar on organ donation and transplantation awareness was  organized at the TMA Pai Hall Auditorium of Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC), Jamshedpur, in collaboration with the Department of Outreach. The event brought together healthcare professionals, students, and dignitaries to promote the importance of organ donation and dispel common misconceptions.

Dr. G. Pradeep Kumar, Dean of MTMC, welcomed the guests and participants. The seminar was led by renowned legal expert and organ donation advocate, Advocate Prashant Ajmera, who addressed key legal, ethical, and procedural aspects of organ donation and transplantation in India. He was joined by Hemali Ajmera, who also shared valuable insights from their joint experience in the field, emphasizing the urgent need for awareness to boost organ donation rates in the country.

IAS officer Dipankar Choudhary highlighted the significant gap in awareness about organ donation, both among the general public and healthcare professionals. He stressed the need for more structured and widespread educational efforts.

Dr. Nirmal Kumar, former Head of the Department of General Medicine at MGMMCH, spoke about the evolving healthcare needs of society and the importance of educating both the public and medical fraternity. He urged for more such seminars to spread awareness and foster informed discussions on the subject.

The seminar also featured an engaging interactive session, where attendees asked questions and shared their perspectives, reflecting a strong commitment to the cause. Participants were encouraged to pledge as organ donors and act as ambassadors of organ donation within their communities.

The program was attended by key dignitaries, including Dr. Rajiva Dwivedi (Director, MTMC), Dr. Maheswar Prasad (Head, Outreach), and over 200 students and faculty members from MTMC. The Department of Outreach reaffirmed its commitment to promoting initiatives aligned with national and global health priorities in collaboration with stakeholders like Advocate Ajmera.

The event concluded with a collective call to action, inspiring the medical community and citizens alike to support and spread awareness on organ donation.
