Jamshedpur, June 13: Chess enthusiasts in Jharkhand have a new reason to celebrate as the 5th edition of the Jharkhand Open Rapid Chess Tournament is set to be held on June 21 and 22, 2025, at Arka Jain University, Gamharia. Organized by the Saraikela-Kharsawan District Chess Association, the two-day tournament will witness participation from players across various districts of the state.
The tournament will be conducted in two categories — Category A (Unrated) and Category B (Open). Category A is exclusively for unrated players from Jharkhand, while Category B is open to both rated and unrated players from within the state.
With total cash prizes exceeding ₹1 lakh and trophies up for grabs, the tournament promises to be a grand affair. The top 30 players in each category will receive cash prizes, and trophies will be awarded to the top three players in each age group (U-6, U-8, U-10, U-12, U-14, and U-16) for both boys and girls.
Tournament organizer Anirudh Sahu informed that matches will begin at 9:00 am on both days. Participants will be provided with free lunch and a local pick-up and drop facility. The matches will be overseen by a national-level jury, ensuring fair play and professionalism.
Registrations are being accepted online only. The entry fee is ₹750 for a single category and ₹1,400 for players entering both categories. The last date for registration without a late fee is June 15. Registrations will be accepted until June 20 with an additional ₹250 late fee. Spot registration is not allowed.
The event is being held under the leadership of Dr. Angad Tiwari (Organising Chairman), Dr. Rupa Sarkar (Convener), Vishal Kumar (Coordinator), and Ajay Kumar (Tournament Director).
