Jamshedpur, March 17: In view of the ever-increasing encroachment at the government land, the administration will launch a drive on March 18. Circle Officer, Jamshedpur Amit Shrivastav has asked Dhalbhum SDO, Amit Srivastav for 500 armed police men for carrying out a massive anti-encroachment drive.
” Concerned over the rising encroachment we have decided to carry out massive drive on March 18. For making the drive a success, we have requested the district administration to send 500 armed police on Tuesday, ” said the Circle officer.
To clear Khaasmahal land of the encroachers and after the eviction drive will set up a post of armed police at the evicted land so as to ensure that the encroachers may not grab the land once again.
The CO said the administration has registered a case against six persons for enticing the adjoining slum-dwellers for the encroachment.
Those grabbed a sizable area of government land at Khaasmahal in Parsudih with impunity have cut down over 100 trees at the encroached site during the past one week.
After the administration led by Dhalbhum sub-division officer, Nitesh Kumar Singh accompanied with Circle Officer and over 100 cops evicted encroachers from about 10 acres of government land, the land grabbers returned to the government land.
In fact, over dozens of encroachers hailing from the adjoining slums like Jharkhand Nagar, Kitadih and Karandih fixed tents and started rebuilding their huts.
The encroachers on Wednesday morning not only restarted grabbing land by marking for the house building, but they have also arranged for community feast at site of the encroached land.
Encroachment on government and common land and its misuse for monetary gains is fast emerging as an organised crime in the city with certain dominant persons allegedly involved in it. Despite claims by the authorities, larger parts in the city are still under control of several unscrupulous persons.
Sources also informed that that there have been cases in which people have encroached ponds and have built their houses illegally.
“Encroachment of public land in the city has become an urban eyesore. It has brought traffic movement to a crawl. Steps would be taken to vacate the illegal constructions,” said an official.
When questioned over how the land is encroached, an official commented, ‘‘once a land is encroached on by number of poor persons, the encroachers’ mafia moves in on the social justice platform and backed by local politicians and goons, gets the illegal settlement regularised. This, in turn, encourages further encroachment.’’
