Jamshedpur: The Tagore Society had organized an All Jamshedpur Sit and Draw contest at Rabindra Bhawan and its branch in Telco on January 27. Out of the 1,100 contestants, 65 contestants who emerged the best among them were awarded prizes by the honoured guests at the Rabindra Bhawan Auditorium in Sakchi today. The chief guest on the occasion was ADM (L&O) Subodh Kumar.
The program commenced with a welcome song performed by the students of Tagore Society. The welcome address was made by the Tagore Society president Dr HS Paul. In his observations on the occasion, Dr Paul pointed out, �Rabindranath Tagore was one of the rare few who promoted art and culture and it is after him that our institution takes its name. We are carrying forward his ideals and objectives and it is our constant effort to polish new talents and at the same time try to bring in established talents in the various fields of art to bolster our mission of propagating the traditions of art and culture.�
Chief guest, ADM Subodh Kumar stated that he was highly impressed with the activities of the Tagore Society aimed towards promoting art and culture. He said, �For an artist to grow and improve, a proper environment is essential. This element is amply evident here.�
Subodh Kumar fully appreciated the expertise and efforts of the teachers in the various disciplines that they put in to groom and nurture talents bringing them to the fore. �An artist is the source of positive energy in any community. That is why, the place from where art is born and takes shape, immeasurably great,� he observed.
He lauded the efforts of the Tagore Society for organizing such competitions where the best emerge. The honour and recognition enthuses them to attain greater heights. The ADM opined, �These programs are good grounds to bring to the fore talents among children and the youth.�
The vote of thanks was offered by Tagore Society vice president Dr Jahar Banerjee. Tagore Society general secretary Ashis Chwdhury was also present on the occasion.
