Jamshedpur, March 6: State sports minister Amar Kumar Bauri on Monday announced to present a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to emerging athlete Basanti Hembrom.
He took along with him the Aadhaar card of Basanti, who claimed gold in 3000m and 5000 m at the state athletics meet held at Bokaro in September last year and also bagging the top slot in 3000 m at the East Zone Meet staged at Guwahati last year, for processing the payment.
The minister was present as the chief guest at the concluding function of annual sports day function of Jamshedpur Women’s College on Monday. He distributed the prizes to the winners and encouraged the girl participants and students of the college to keep up the pace and make a career in sports.
Addressing the gathering, Bauri said, 700 young sportspersons were being groomed at Khel Gaon in Ranchi for preparing them for Olympics. Earlier the sports minister inaugurated a gym equipped with health club and other facilities at the indoor stadium of the college.
