Slackness in poll related work will not be tolerated, says DC Amit Kumar

Jamshedpur, March 13: East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Wednesday reviewed preparations for Lok Sabha elections slated to be held at Jamshedpur seat on 12th May. He warned all government officials entrusted with poll duty against slackness or dereliction of duty.
The DC asked the officials concerned to submit report on places or booths where election malpractices are likely to take place. Such places include areas where efforts may be made by candidates or their supporters to influence voters through various means or affect poll results through bogus voting.
Kumar said all basic amenities as directed by the Election Commission of India were available at majority of polling booths. He said booths not having such facility as yet should be identified through physical verification for taking necessary measures to provide such facilities before 12th May.
Kumar stressed the need to organize voter awareness programmes on a wide scale all over the district. Nukkad natak and various other mass media means should be used for spreading awareness among voters, he said.
The DC said mock polls, voting process and sealing of EVMs should be videographed. He asked all BDOs, COs and station house officers (SHOs) to complete the vulnerable booth mapping work.
Kumar said an all-women polling booth should be set up in the city. All-women polling booths will have only women poll duty workers. Model polling booths should also be set up in urban areas, he said.
The DC directed all BDOs to identify half a dozen model polling booths in their respective blocks and provide a list of the same to the administration. He also reviewed the law and order situation in the blocks.
Today�s meeting was also attended by DDC B Maheshwari, ADC, ADM Law and order, DRDA Director, NEP Director, SDO Dhalbhum, SDO Ghatsila, DCLR, Deputy Returning Officer, Panchayati Raj Officer and DPRO.
