Jamshedpur: A meeting of the All Jharkhand Telugu Samaj was held at the district office under the chairmanship of its president, Y Eshwar Rao. The meeting began with a two-minute silence in memory of late Durga Prasad, General Secretary of Andhra Bhakta Sri Ram Mandiram.
During the meeting, members discussed several important issues concerning the Telugu-speaking community in Jharkhand. The first demand was to provide reservation benefits to Telugu-speaking people in the state on the lines of Andhra Pradesh, so that they can access better education and employment opportunities.
The second issue raised was the immediate introduction of a train service from Tatanagar to Tirupati via Visakhapatnam. Members said that nearly 3,000 people travel on this route daily to visit Lord Balaji and currently face many difficulties due to the lack of a direct train.
The third demand focused on education, suggesting that English-medium textbooks for all classes should be used for five years to help children from poor families receive quality education and become self-reliant.
All executive members unanimously supported the demands. It was decided that a delegation would submit a memorandum to President of India Droupadi Murmu and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren by the end of February.
Several members, including M B Subrahmanyam, Chandrasekhar Rao, L Nageswara Rao, S Prasad Rao and others, were present.
