Advanced Solar Training Program Inaugurated at NIT Jamshedpur to Boost Renewable Energy Skills

Jamshedpur: The National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur on Friday inaugurated an MSME-sponsored Advanced Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Program (AESDP) titled “Advanced Solar Training Program – Harnessing the Power of the Sun for a Sustainable Future.” The week-long program will run from February 13 to 19.

Organised by the Department of Electrical Engineering, the program aims to equip students, professionals, and aspiring entrepreneurs with advanced knowledge and practical skills in solar energy systems, installation, maintenance, and entrepreneurship opportunities in the renewable energy sector.

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Prof. (Dr.) Goutam Sutradhar, Director of NIT Jamshedpur, who is the Chief Patron of the program. Among the dignitaries present were Prof. (Dr.) R. V. Sharma, Deputy Director; Prof. (Dr.) Satish Kumar, Dean (Research & Consultancy) and Nodal Officer; Prof. (Dr.) Saroj Kumar Sarangi, Registrar (I/C); and Dr. Madhu Singh, Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Coordinator of the program.

The Chief Guest on the occasion was Prof. S. K. Samdarshi from the Department of Energy Engineering, Central University of Jharkhand. Sri Manoj Kumar Jha, Chief of Field Maintenance (Electrical) at Tata Steel, attended as the Guest of Honour.

In their addresses, the speakers highlighted the growing importance of solar energy in achieving sustainable development goals, ensuring energy security, and mitigating climate change. They emphasized that skill development and entrepreneurship are critical to strengthening India’s renewable energy ecosystem and accelerating the transition toward clean and green energy solutions.

The dignitaries also appreciated the efforts of the program coordinators — Dr. Madhu Singh, Dr. Kundan Kumar, and Dr. Ravi Bhushan — for designing a timely and industry-aligned training module that bridges the gap between academia and industry requirements.

The training program will feature expert lectures, panel discussions, hands-on technical sessions, an industry visit, and a campus rooftop solar installation visit. Eminent academicians and industry professionals from reputed institutions and organizations such as Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology Allahabad, Damodar Valley Corporation, National Institute of Technology Raipur, NTPC Limited, and Power Grid Corporation of India are scheduled to deliver sessions during the week.

Organizers stated that the initiative is expected to significantly enhance participants’ technical competence, employability prospects, and entrepreneurial capabilities in the rapidly expanding solar energy sector. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from researchers, academicians, industry professionals, and young innovators keen to explore emerging opportunities in renewable energy.
