Administration to roll out bulldozers on illegal constructions in Bistupur

Jamshedpur: The increasing encroachment on the Government and Tata Steel lease land area particularly on busy market areas has become a matter of concern for the district administration.

With city roads squeezing day by day due to encroachments, the district administration is all set to launch anti-encroachment drive in the city.

We have decided to carry out further anti-encroachment drive in the Bistupur market in the days to come. The aim is to educate vendors and also facilitate commuters and visitors. Vehicles would not be allowed to be parked in front of the stalls and visitors have to park their vehicles in designated parking slots and visit the food stalls, said SDO Dhalbhum Alok Kumar.

During a meeting Tata Steel and Jusco officials agreed to help the administration in carrying out the eviction drive. We want to streamline the traffic movement in the city. We are taking initiatives to vacate the illegal constructions so that the vehicles can move easily, noted another official.

Kadma, Bistupur, Sakchi and Jugsalai, which are the busiest areas of the town, over fifty fruit vendors and vegetable sellers have encroached the road and there are always a traffic jam as the fruit vendors have occupied one forth portion of the road, making difficult to move the heavy vehicles.

Encroachments in the city are omnipresent and thriving, much to the discomfort of the ordinary citizen. Be it the road, parks, pavements, markets or public land taken over in the name of religion, the city is
known for the encroachments which blot the urban landscape.

Sources informed that several illegal jhuggis and shops have been raised in areas in Mango, Golpahari, Loco Colony, Karandih, Jugsalai, Sakchi and Bistupur. Though several times the anti-encroachment drives have been carried but due to support of local goons the people are able to intrude the land again. The administration has identified these areas and will soon carry the drive.

The eviction drive is being taken up in view of a plan to widen the road to enable of operation of buses and traffic through it. Encroachment of public land in the city has become an urban eyesore. It has brought traffic movement to a crawl. Steps need be taken to vacate the illegal constructions, said a Jusco official.
