Jamshedpur : East Singhbhum deputy commissioner-cum-returning officer for Jamshedpur parliamentary constituency, Amitabh Kaushal today informed that he will be writing to the deputy chief inspector factory, Jamshedpur and deputy labour commissioner Jamshedpur to ensure that all factories and industries give holidays on voting day on April 17.
Talking to the newsmen he said that the administration will make sure that the Election Commission�s guidelines are followed in high spirit. He will write to deputy chief factory inspector and deputy labour commissioner to ensure that all factories and industries in the region make certain that the workers are able to cast their votes at ease.
Meanwhile, the state unit of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has also asked the industrial units to ensure their participation in voter�s awareness drive and also give holidays for employees to facilitate them in exercising their franchise at respective polling booths.
Senior functionary S K Behera said that more than 1300 small and medium scale industries and nearly 15 big industries will encourage their employees to vote during general election along with their family.
As per section 35 (B) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 any person employed in a factory, industry or commercial establishment should be granted a holiday on the day of voting and no deduction of wages of any such person shall be made on account of the holiday. If an employer contravenes provision of this section then such employer shall be punishable with fine which may extend to Rs 500.
