Jamshedpur, Dec 24: The East Singhbhum District Education Department is gearing up to take action against schools operating without UDISE (Unified District Information System for Education) codes, in line with directives from the Government of India. Schools failing to meet basic standards, including the lack of a U-DISE or U-DISE Plus code, will be targeted for closure. The move aims to ensure better regulation and transparency in the educational system.
The U-DISE code is an 11-digit unique identifier assigned to every school in India, used to track school data and verify its recognition status. U-DISE Plus, an advanced version of the code, includes additional information such as student enrolment rates, teacher counts, and basic school infrastructure details. These codes are essential for the Ministry of Education to monitor school standards and performance.
Ashish Kumar Pandey, District School Education (DSE) Officer for East Singhbhum, confirmed the move. “We are preparing to take action against schools that either do not have a U-DISE code or are not recognized by any board like CBSE, CISCE, or JAC. We are waiting for the official action letter from the department, after which we will proceed with the closures,” he said.
However, schools that are recognized by any board, even if they lack the U-DISE code, will not face closure. “Schools with board recognition, such as CBSE, ICSE, or JAC, will not be impacted by this directive, as long as they meet the necessary recognition standards,” Pandey added.
The action will also extend to schools that have been operating for years without a U-DISE code or have failed to upload their self-declaration certificates for five consecutive years. Such schools are at risk of being shut down as part of efforts to streamline educational standards in the district.
The District Education Department is currently preparing the necessary steps to implement this directive once the action letter is received.
