Midnapore (WB), Feb 20: Seven most wanted Maoists laid down their arms before the Superintendent of Police, West Midnapore, Bharati Ghosh, here on Monday.
The SP said the seven had 48 cases pending against them.
The Maoists were identified as Saheb Murmu alias Jayanta, Saheb�s wife Manasi Mahato, Dilip Singh, Malati Singh wife of Dilip, Samir Mahato, Baidyanath Mahato and Banamali Mahato.
Welcoming the extremists to the social mainstream, Ghosh said they would be given rehabilitation package as per government policy so that they could make a peaceful comeback to the society.
The surrendered activists deposited one AK-47 rifle and seven country-made guns to the police.
The ultras, all residents of Jhargram sub-division, were allegedly involved in extortion, attacks and other criminal cases in past few years.
They were reportedly involved in the abduction of the OC of Sankrail PS and loot of arms from police, police sources said.
