Jamshedpur: People can look forward for a smooth ride on Purulia Road in Mango. Thanks to district police for taking an initiative of making the road congestion free by carrying out a massive anti-encroachment drive today.
During the eviction drive which was launched at around 11 am about 60 make-shift shops and temporary structures were razed. The drive continued till 3 pm. The drive was simultaneously carried at Mango.
Before carrying out the anti-encroachment drive the traffic police gave half-an-hour time to the vendors, most of them selling vegetables and shop-owners for removing their belongings. In response to the directive many of them removed their belongings while several of them ignored the instructions hoping that some or the other political party activists will come to their rescue.
The policemen present on the spot removed the make-shift shops and the wares forcibly .
The kind of shops which faced the eviction axe included vegetable shops, fruit shops, tea stalls, snacks corner, hair-cutting salon and furniture shops.
An official who led the drive said that road-side unauthorised shops were creating traffic congestion and it was necessary to remove them for making that road congestion free.
We want to streamline the traffic movement in the city. We are taking initiatives to vacate the illegal constructions so that the vehicles can move easily, he noted.
Kadma, Bistupur, Sakchi and Jugsalai, which are the busiest areas of the town, over fifty fruit vendors and vegetable sellers have encroached the road and there are always a traffic jam as the fruit vendors have occupied one forth portion of the road, making difficult to move the heavy vehicles.
Encroachments in the city are omnipresent and thriving, much to the discomfort of the ordinary citizen. Be it the road, parks, pavements, markets or public land taken over in the name of religion, the city is known for the encroachments which blot the urban landscape.
Sources informed that several illegal jhuggis and shops have been raised in areas in Mango, Golpahari, Loco Colony, Karandih, Jugsalai, Sakchi and Bistupur. Though several times the anti-encroachment drives have been carried but due to support of local goons the people are able to intrude the land again.
