60 shops gutted in fire at Chakradharpur

Jamshedpur, June 19: At least 60 shops in Chakradharpur�s Gudri Bazaar under West Singhbhum district were reduced to ashes in the early hours of Monday. Police said properties lakhs of rupees were lost in the devastating fire in the heart of this town.

Chakradharpur DSP Sakaldev Ram immediately informed district headquarters to rush five fire tenders to douse the flames. West Singhbhum DC Arva Rajkamal and SP Anish Gupta also reached the spot. There were no casualties.

Local shopkeepers rushed to the spot after the news spread and tried to save. Most of the shops which were completely gutted were that of plastic products. Sources in the market said that the administration�s fire brigade was informed first which immediately sent fire tenders.

60 Battalion force also sent a water tanker to control the situation. Though the exact reason of the mishap is yet to be ascertained but sources said that it was due to short circuit.

Timely intervention of fire fighters controlled the situation,” said an official. Initial investigation revealed that the fire was caused due to a short circuit.

A senior official said that they would verify facts based on the written complaints, which the shopkeepers would give to police. Security has been deployed at the area to ensure peace and strict vigil.
