5 lakh Jharkhand school students to get cycles

Ranchi, January 13: Some good news for eighth graders in state-owned schools of Jharkhand.

The Hemant Soren government is going to give bicycles to 5 lakh students.

Nearly 5 lakh students of class 8 will get bicycles. After the start of the academic session in April 2025, the distribution of bicycles will start in May. Preparations for this have already started. The class seven examination will be held in March 2025. The results will also be released in March. The admission process will start after the results are out. Classes will start from 1 April 2025. The government wants to start the distribution of bicycles in May 2025.

The tender process will be completed in February-March so that the bicycles are distributed on time. If the tender is not done once again, then the money will be sent to the bank accounts of the students.

While Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Class (OBC) students will get Rs 4,500 from the Welfare Department to buy a bicycle. At the same time, students of general category will be given Rs 3500 by the education department to buy a bicycle. This arrangement has been going on for the last three years.

The Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Backward Class Welfare Department has sent its proposal to the government. It has been told that 5.20 lakh children are studying in class 7. All of them will take the exam this time and about 5 lakh children are expected to get admission in class eight and will be given cycles for academic session 2025-26, so that they do not face any problem in commuting to school.

Significantly, last year welfare minister Chamra Linda in a review meeting had instructed officials that the students should get bicycles with the beginning of the academic session. Education Minister Ramdas Soren also agreed to this.

In the year 2020-21, year 2021-22 and year 2022-23, money was transferred to the bank accounts of the students because the tender could not be done then. The same company gave the tender repeatedly, so it was not given the responsibility of supplying bicycles.
