Jamshedpur: The contract of about 2500 assistant police has been extended. The Government of Jharkhand recruited 2500 assistant police in the year 2017. They were appointed on a two-year contract, but it provided that after two years they would be made permanent in the Jharkhand Police on the basis of performance. This was also announced by former Chief Minister Raghubar Das at a function organized on the foundation day of Jharkhand.
The contract service extension was extended for one year in 2019. This year too their service has been extended. Instead of making them permanent, the one-year contract is being extended. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Kolhan division, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, has written a letter to the Senior Reserve Superintendent of East Singhbhum District and the Reserve Superintendent of West Singhbhum District, asking them to recommend extension of contract service to assistant police personnel deputed in their district.
The letter states that the contract extension of Assistant Police shall not be extended beyond five years. Despite this, it has been decided that Assistant Police will have to work on contract only in the year 2020-21.
Assistant police personnel say that they get only ten thousand rupees per month in the name of salary, while duty is taken like Jharkhand Police. Most of their duty is put in traffic, sometimes even Naxal affected area or emergency duty has to be done. For this, they do not get any kind of allowance.
