Jamshedpur, Jan. 6 :Thousands of aspiring managers from the city appeared for the XAT (Xavier Admission Test), 2019, conducted by XLRI along with their counterparts from various centres across the country.
Students appeared across three centres in the city -DBMS English School, Al Kabir Polytechnic, TCS-Ion on NH-33. About 80,000 students appeared 167 across 46 cities in the country while 2400 students appeared in Jamshedpur and Ranchi, the only two cities where XAT was conducted in Jharkhand.
The XAT is considered to be India’s second most premier MBA entrance test after the CAT (Common admission test). Organized by the XLRI School of Business and Human Resources, Jamshedpur, the exam serves as the entrance exam for various other B-Schools in India including SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (Mumbai), Alliance Business Academy (Bangalore), Goa Institute of Management (Goa), Welingkar (Mumbai) and XIM (Bhubaneshwar). XAT is considered in about 109 B schools in the country.
XAT has always focused on good language skills, decision making skills of the candidates and given all aspiring candidates ample opportunity to display their innate capabilities, said a professor.
The pattern of the paper was somewhat different from last year. Unlike two papers, there was only one paper with 74 questions in quantitative ability, verbal ability and reasoning and decision making along with a general knowledge section. The total time allotted for XAT was three hours starting from 10 am to 1 pm.
As far as negative marking was concerned it was uniform, which was one fourth of the total marks in every question. Unattempted questions will fetch a negative marking of one twentieth of the total marks.
An applicant said that he is happy with his performance in XAT, but is worried about his score in the reasoning. He went on to add that the paper was quite tough and he found difficult to solve the decision making part too.
” XAT is the favourite choice of the students. Since the B-school is based in the city itself a large number of students appeared for the exam,” said in-charge of Career Launcher India, Jamshedpur.
