Jamshedpur, Nov 29: A joint team of the RPF Flying Squad, Chakradharpur Division, and GRP Tatanagar arrested a ganja smuggler at Tatanagar Railway Station on Sunday, recovering 17 kg of illegal ganja from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Uday Kumar alias Mantu, a resident of Hariharganj in Palamu district.
Police had received a tip-off that a major consignment of ganja was being transported from Jarapada station in Odisha to Tatanagar. Acting on the information, the teams launched a special surveillance drive at the station. A suspicious individual was detained, and a search of his bag led to the recovery of the narcotics.
During questioning, the accused confessed that he had brought the contraband from Odisha and planned to take it to Daltonganj by bus.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of the DSP (Headquarters), Rail Jamshedpur. Officials said interrogation is ongoing to identify the intended recipient in Daltonganj and uncover the network behind the smuggling. Police added that the crackdown on illegal narcotics will continue.
