Jamshedpur, Oct 4: Narayana Hospital, Jamshedpur, has successfully performed a complex surgical procedure on a 13-day-old infant diagnosed with a life-threatening intracranial hemorrhage and massive hydrocephalus. The delicate surgery was led by expert neurosurgeon Dr. Rajiv Maharshi, with support from Senior Anesthesiologist Dr. Umesh Prasad and Pediatric Cardiologist Dr. Anwesha Mukherjee.
The infant arrived at the hospital in critical condition with symptoms of increased intracranial pressure, including rapid head growth and lethargy. After an urgent evaluation, the medical team placed the baby on ventilation and immediately planned the surgery to prevent long-term neurological damage.
Dr. Maharshi successfully removed the intracranial hemorrhage and placed a temporary external ventricular drain (EVD) to relieve pressure from the accumulated cerebrospinal fluid. Following the procedure, the baby is now stable and under observation in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
“This operation required precision and expertise, especially on such a young patient,” said Dr. Maharshi. “We are very pleased with the outcome and optimistic about the infant’s recovery.”
The family expressed deep gratitude to the medical team, thanking it for the skill and compassionate care in saving their baby’s life.
