Yoga Day celebrations under joint aegis of SNSVM and BSTP

Ghatshila, June 22: The eighth International Yoga Day celebrations were organized under the joint aegis of Sant Nandlal Smriti Vidya Mandir (SNSVM) and the Ghatshila unit of Bharat Swabhiman Trust Patanjali (BSTP). Post dawn (Prabhat Pheri) procession was taken out from SNSVM premises at 6 am and traversed along the main road touching Ram Mandir Chowk and Gopalpur crossing before returning to the SNSVM premises.

A yoga session was inaugurated jointly by SNSVM managing committee member and patron of the Ghatshila unit of BSTP Nirmal Jhunjhunwala, social worker Professor Mitreshwar, Anand Agarwal, Gopal Krishna Agarwal and the school’s Manager Dr Prasenjit Karmakar. District Councilor Devyani Murmu, in her address on the occasion stated that performing Yoga should be accommodated as part of daily life to ensure good health and mental agility. Professor Mitreshwar while elucidating the aspects of Yoga and reiterating Devyani Murmu’s observations, added that Yoga postures and meditation practices, as handed down the generations were introduced by Maharshi Patanjali in his writings that also emphasized on the close affinity of Yoga and Ayurveda. “Yoga is almost as old as human civilization. Lord Shri Krishna is also referred to as Yogeshwar and lord Shiva as Mahayogi that authenticate the power of Yoga in the attainment of good health, mental agility and spirituality,” observed Prof Mitreshwar.

Nirmal Jhunjhunwala said, “The treatment costs including high priced medicines are expensive and the curative process takes a long time thus taking a toll on the monetary aspect. Instead, daily practice of Yoga ensures a healthy body and a healthy mind.”

SNSVM Manager Dr Prasenjit Karmakar delivered the welcome address. The School’s physical education instructor, Indra Kumar who is also a member of BSTP Ghatshila conducted the Yoga session that commenced with Vedic incantations and was followed up with Yogasanas including Surya Pranam.  On conclusion of the Yoga session, sprouted grams and salads were distributed among the participants. The vote of thanks was proposed by SNSVM’s senior teacher, SR Dutta.

Among others present on the occasion included faculty members and students of SNSVM, Patron member of BSTP Ghatshila, Nirmal Jhunjhunwala, President Raja Karmakar, Patanjali mega store owner Ashish Agarwal and Sumit Kumar.
