XLRI expresses concern over security of the campus, approaches administration

Jamshedpur : City –based B-school XLRI has expressed concern over the security of the campus. Recently, there have been a few incidents happened on the eastern side of the XLRI campus. Some miscreants also demolish a wall.

In order to prevent any further untoward instances XLRI has initiated steps to seal all the outward-facing entrances that might be a potential source of unauthorized infiltration into the campus.

Accordingly, XLRI submitted a letter to the Deputy Commissioner explaining all the facts and the reasons for closing all the outward-facing entrances.

Moreover there are roads on either side of the proposed wall leading to the Marine Drive. In view of the past untoward instances and the likelihood of future unauthorized infiltration, XLRI has also intimated all the concerned district authorities regarding the urgent need for round-the clock campus security.

Concerned over the situation the B-school has approached administration and has sought cooperation in any such situation near the campus.

Addressing the media, director E Abraham said: “ XLRI Jamshedpur is a co-educational residential campus for post-graduate students pursuing management education and doctoral program in management.

The batch sizes for the various flagship programs – PGDM-BM and PGDM-HRM are slated to increase next year and an extension campus is coming up to accommodate the additional intake of students.

Moreover, the three-nation PGDM (Global MBA) program with students from USA, China and India will also be accommodated in the International Students Hostel that is part of the new upcoming extension campus.

Thus, by 2014 XLRI will have be a residential campus for approximately 1200 students and 200 (faculty and non-teaching) members. XLRI is also constructing a new learning centre, international centre and hostels in the extension campus”.

He went on to add that with the extension campus coming up the two academic learning centres and the hostels will be situated at two different corners of the XLRI campus and the library that is frequented by students and faculty round-the-clock will be positioned in between the two learning centres.

Due to heavy academic workload, classes are generally held until late in the evening, sometimes as late as 11.00 pm. All through the day and even at night there is constant movement of students on campus to use the library, attend classes, and engage in other important academic activities.

The student community comprises both boys and girls from various parts of the country and with the PGDM (Global MBA) getting underway XLRI will also have international students from USA and China. Therefore, it is extremely critical that adequate safety and security prevails in the XLRI Campus.
