Workers College student killed in road mishap at NH 33

Jamshedpur, Aug. 21 : In a shocking incident a college student who was celebrating his birthday was killed after being hit by an oil tanker near Dimna Chowk on NH-33 under MGM police station area late last night.

The mishap victim, Chandan Sharma (18) was a resident of Sankosai in Mango and was a first year student of Jamshedpur Workers College.

Another teenager, Ankit Kumar who was a pillion rider on the mishap victim’s bike sustained multiple injuries on his right leg.

Ankit, who is a resident of Kashidih has been admitted at the Tata Main Hospital, where his condition was stated to be out of danger.

The mishap took place about two kms away from Chandan’s house on Sankosai Road No 1 in Mango at about 9.45 pm.
Chandan’s uncle Anil Sharma said his nephew had gone to a near-by departmental store (Big Bazaar) along with six of his friends for buying gifts and while returning from there his bike was hit by a speeding oil tanker.

” We are in state of shock. He along with six of his friends had gone to the Big Bazaar for buying birthday gift for a friend’s nephew. On way back home at Mango, an oil tanker that was coming from behind hit the bike.

He sustained fatal head injuries where as one of his friends who was sitting pillion sustained multiple injuries on his leg,” said Sharma.

He said his friends who were in two more bikes rescued the two injured and rushed them to Tata Main Hospital emergency, where Chandan was declared as brought dead. OC, MGM, Imdiad Ansari confirmed about the mishap caused by the oil tanker.

“We have seized the tanker, but the driver and cleaner have managed to escape. We have sent the body for a post-mortem,” said Ansari.
