Weekend lockdown in Jamshedpur: Strict vigil continues on Sunday

Jamshedpur, July 25: The total weekend lockdown imposed here on Saturday evening and Sunday as part of the statewide measure resulted in a complete shutdown, with only essential and emergency services allowed within the city limits and rural areas. Police teams were on the job from 10am, strictly enforcing the lockdown curbs. Those out unnecessarily were forced to turn back and only those with genuine reasons for travelling were allowed to continue their journey.

However, several violations were reported in the district and cases were registered. The maximum number of violations were reported in the rural areas. The violators have been booked.

SSP M Tamil Vanan said that stringent curbs will continue on Sunday. According to the government order, construction activities can be carried out on Sunday also, but in strict compliance with Covid protocol. However, the nearest police station should be informed of the construction work in advance. On Saturday, only home delivery from hotels and restaurants were allowed as the ‘take away’ and parcel options were barred.

Only medical stores, milk, vegetable and essential food outlets were allowed to function. Police barricades were erected at the border regions to ensure strict inspection. As many as 33 checkpoints were set up at key locations within all station limits in the city. Train and air passengers were allowed to travel after showing their boarding passes and other travel documents.

Those travelling for vaccination purposes were let through. Strict restrictions will remain in force in the district on Sunday too. Police asked people to stay indoors unless there is an emergency situation like a medical emergency.

Residents of the city extended full cooperation to the complete lockdown which began on Saturday evening till Monday morning by staying indoors. Only those into essential services, which were exempted besides those who wanted to be vaccinated came out. Police teams deployed at important junctions and stretches checked unnecessary movement. While a few vehicles were seen out in the morning, most roads were deserted in the afternoon.

A police officer said, “Only those going to funerals are allowed. People involved in essential works are allowed after showing their identity card or permission letter.”

The public must cooperate and strictly comply with the rules issued by the government during the complete lockdown on Sundays, said DC Suraj Kumar. He said that the spread of COVID-19 was rapid during the second wave.

The State government was taking several safety precautions to contain the spread of COVID-19. Officials of the health, revenue and police departments were working jointly to contain the spread of COVID-19.

COVID-19 vaccination, conducting more tests, immediate treatment of COVID-19 patients, and containment measures are undertaken by the district administration.
