Ghatsila, Dec 14: VISION is one platform that has been providing creative filmmakers in a mix of veteran and upcoming celluloid talents. Ghatshila’s annual rendezvous with the best of short films has become a compulsive desire for connoisseurs and film buffs who look forward to VISION and its treat. This year saw the ninth version of VISION that offered a bonanza of seven conscience stirring short films dedicated to intricate yet incisive issues like environment preservation, need for proper upbringing, homosexuality and other equally arresting posers delving into the lockdown crisis and the pandemic effects. VISION – 9 was a successful mission that the earlier editions also were.
Although VISION – 9 was organized virtually, the ‘Josh’ factor was in no way missing. The short films presented in the VISION mission in the ninth year of its onward march to ‘Success Avenue’ ranged between 3 and 12 minutes and were in English, Hindi and Bengali languages. Vision – 9 was organized on virtual mode on December 11 and 12 yet it elicited the joy of viewing and reckoning as in normal times. The seven films comprised meticulous work by filmmakers from Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata.
The Film Festival opened with Meet Vasudevan’s PARVARISH followed by Mini Pandey’s ECO FRIENDLY. LOOK UP AT LOCKDOWN by Debajyoti Batabyal, MUDRAA by Abhishek Ganguli, YAARA by Yogendra Sahu and LOST & FOUND by Sumanta Ghosh were the other films that made the viewers sit up and take notice keeping their thinking caps on all the time. SWEEKAR by Sayandip Sikder had already left its mark on national and international short film fests and VISION – 9 emphasized on why this Sumanta Ghosh venture had earned international kudos. Incidentally, SWEEKAR was the closing film of VISION – 9.
Debraj Mukherjee of Creative Art Division, Ghatsila and Tathagata Bhattacherjee of Take5 Communications of Kolkata have partnered in the VISION mission that can only move forward towards success. Both, Debraj and Tathagata opined, “We could feel the racing pulse of the audience and the responses continue to flow. Hopefully, COVID would provide a leeway next year for the physical format while marching on to a decade of VISION.”
