VC interacts with Kolhan University students, promises redressal of grievances

Jamshedpur, May 15 : Taking a cue from popular talk show ‘ Koffee with Karan’, Shukla Mahanty, the new vice-chancellor of Kolhan University on Mondayinteracted with the students.

The vice-chancellor gave an opportunity to the student to air their problems which can be directly solved by the Kolhan University administration.

Shukla interacted with students at Tata College, Chaibasa. This was the first time when the university vice-chancellor directly interacted with the students. The concept will be started in all the colleges now.

Sharing the essence of education, she spoke about the importance of education and having a goal in life. She said, �One should never leave the desire of education.

Every student should consider higher education as a valuable progression route into their desired career even though there is economic problem.� She asked the students to share their queries with her and assured that she will revert positively to the students. She promised them that syllabus confusions and delays in the re-evaluation process would be sorted out quickly after many students there spoke of the issue.

In the meeting Mahanty also spoke about the concept of Book Bank to help needy students with text books. She informed that all the colleges have been asked to start such bank so that the students can avail facilities of the books easily.

The students also raised their concerns over improving infrastructure and facilities like electricity in their college hostels and the lack of books in the college library. Mahanty asked college officials to take action and procure the required books for the college. The VC shared the idea of solar lights in order to light up the hostels at night.
A.K. Jha, proctor and spokesperson, Kolhan University said that the meeting was a great learning experiences. In closed doors vice chancellor addressed the students and focused on bring improvement.

“The Coffee with VC is a novel way to let students interact directly with the VC so that they can discuss the problems in colleges. The university will try to sort out these problems. This also gives an opportunity for students to gel well with the administration,” said Jha. The idea is to organised a Coffee with VC session in all the constituent colleges at regular intervals throughout the year.

The vice-chancellor of newly formed Kolhan University, has expressed an urgent need for restructuring of colleges under the varsity to improve standards of education in the region.

The vice chancellor said that there was an urgent need to improve infrastructure and normalise academic session so that students are not forced to leave for metro cities for higher studies.

�I feel the colleges should be capable of generating maintenance cost. We have to work together to ensure placement facilities. For this we have to build up links with corporate houses. It is really sad that colleges have failed to build on the linkage till now,� noted another official.
