VB Chinmaya Vidyalaya crowned winner of bio fest �Elysian�

Jamshedpur, Aug. 10: The DAV Public School Bistupur organised the second edition of �Elysian� an inter-school biology fest with several events lined up.

It was an exhilarating experience for the 320 participants of 15 different schools who took part in different events, the fest compromised of eleven events namely skit, extempore, quiz, photography dress designing, poster designing, balbilo and Rubisco face painting.

The participating schools include-DBMS Kadma High School, Kerala Public School, Burmamines, Kerala Samajam Model School, Vidya Bharti Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Mount Litera Zee School, Dayanand Public School, Jamshedpur Public School, Sacred Heart Convent School, Motilal Nehru Public School, DBMS English School, J.H. Tarapore School and Chinmaya Vidyalaya.

Chief Guest Arup Basu, city-based gastroenterologist inaugurated the school fest while psychiatrist Sanjay Agarwal was the chief guest in the valedictory ceremony.

During the fest students wore apparels made of bio-degradable material. A treasure hunt that requires its participants to identify plants in a school garden was also organised.

A student of DAV Public School said that Biology is really fun. �The next would be about biological science. There is much to be discovered, for example how we acquire information, store or retrieve it. I see antibiotics, immunology progress the way IT has progressed,” he said.

The events included model making in biology, a debate where a speaker speaks on a topic and then contradicts it, a quiz, a photography contest to cover the flora and fauna.

Chief Guest Arup Basu said that Biology is a fascinating subject. Learning about life on earth is fun. �Biology is the study of life, what life needs to survive, what makes life possible, how life evolves and changes, and how life forms interact with one another. Biology is the science of learning about every kind of life, no matter where it is, or how big or small it is,� he noted.

Principal Pragya Singh in her address welcomed all the participants and wished them luck for their performances and also appreciated the efforts of the teachers and students of the Biology Department for the event.

The event came to a close with the prize distribution ceremony.� The chief guest gave away the trophies and certificates. The closing ceremony was graced by the presence of famous Psychiatrist Dr. Sanjay Agarwal.

Vidya Bharti Chinmaya School was declared overall winner of the event while Sacred Heart convent was declared runner up.
