Upendra Singh murder case: Police pick two youths for probe

Jamshedpur : In recent development the police have picked up two youths, including brother of close associate of gangster Akhilesh Singh for interrogation in connection with the twin murders which the gangster has alleged to have masterminded.

One of the suspects, is Tej Pratap Singh (28), younger brother of Kanhaiya Singh, who is a resident of Bagbera and considered to be the right-hand of the gangster.

The other youth, who is in police custody is Vikash Singh (24), the younger brother of Bhola, another close associate of the gangster. Vikash has been picked up from his house in Burmamines and is being interrogated by the police.

A senior police officer revealed that both Tej Pratap and Vikash have been picked up for mounting pressure on the associates of Akhilesh Singh.

” We have nabbed Vikash nor Tej Pratap. They are not involved in Akhilesh Singh gang, but the main reason behind picking the duo for interrogation is to create pressure on their brothers.

We want to nab Akhilesh and picking up the kin of his close associate for interrogation is s the main reason,” said the police officer on condition of anonymity.

The police officer maintained that the main purpose behind picking up the kin of the suspects to know about the whereabouts of Akhilesh Singh whose gang members are very much in the city.

Transporter Upendra Singh (56) who had enmity with gangster Akhilesh was shot dead by two criminals at bar building on the civil court premises in Sitaramdera thana area on November 30 afternoon.

Just six days after Upendra’s murder, his close associate Amit Rai (35) was shot dead by a gang of four assailants near his house in Shiv Ganga apartment in Sonari.

Notably, the arrest of Akhilesh Singh has become a challenge for the police and administration. Son of Chandragupt Singh, former general secretary of Jharkhand Police Association, Akhilesh set up a network extortionists and shooters.

The don stepped into the crime world by abducting the mobile merchant Om Prakash Kabra on July 21, 2001. After his name figured in the Kabra abduction case, he had surrendered in the court on August 6, 2001.

He fled the judicial custody on February 18, 2002. He was arrested from Varanasi on October 7, 2004. On September 2, 2007, he was granted a parole for attending his ailing mother.
