Jamshedpur: Unseeded Arpit Sharma and Neeraj Choudhary stole the show at the ongoing Beldih Club AITA Men’s National Ranking 50K Tennis Championship 2017, been held at Beldih Club and United Club in Northern Town, Bistupur on Wednesday.
Qualifier Arpit Sharma, from Rajasthan took 1hr and 20mins to show top seeded Taha Kapadia the door at the quarter finals of the Men’s Open Singles. Sharma won by a straight 6-2, 6-3. He will face 3rd seed from Bengal, Abhinansu Borthakur in the semi final, who got the better of Delhi’s Hemant Kumar seeded 7 by a dominating 6-1,6-1.
From the bottom half of the draw, unseeded Neeraj Choudhary of Bengal played a marathon and took 2hr and 50 minutes to outclass state-mate Arghya Das, seeded 4 in the draw by a nail-biting 6-3,5-7,6-2. Choudhary will face 5th seeded Shubham Malhotra in the semi finals on Thursday, who did not have to sweat much to drub 2nd seeded Rohit Rampuria by a clean 6-1,6-4.
In the Men’s Open double quarter final- Delhi’s Shubham Malhotra & Hemant Kumar seeded 1 beat Aakash Patil & Varun Tiwari (CG) 6-3, 6-3. In the second match Rohit Rampuria & Arghya Das (West Bengal) seeded 4 defeated Umang Jhunjhunwala (Gujarat) and Vivek Sinha (Jharkhand) 6-1, 6-1. The rest of the doubles quarter final matches could not be finished due to bad weather, said, Rishi representing All India Tennis Association (AITA).
