Jamshedpur: Two radial gates of Chandil dam had to be opened this evening due to incessant rains in the catchment areas which led to the rise in the water level of river Subernarekha.

The water level at the Chandil dam reached 18.5 metres this evening. Officials of state water resources department said that if the rain continues overnight they might be required to open another radial gate of the dam.
Jamshedpur has recorded over 65 mm of rainfall on Sunday while the cumulative rainfall on two days ( Saturday and Sunday) comes to around 144 mm. Adjoining Seraikela witnessed around 80mm as did a few other places in West Singhbhum district and Kolebira in Simdega.

According to information, southwest monsoon would remain active over Jharkhand during the few days. ” We have issued heavy rainfall alert in isolated pockets of the state in the next three days,” said the senior climate analyst. The low pressure build-up and an active monsoon trough resulted in a shower showdown at many places during the past 24 hours.
