Truck kills 62 year old in Seraikela, road blocked for hours

Seraikela: A speeding truck mowed down a 62 year old man, identified as Adya Kar, on the Seraikela-Kandra road on Saturday. The man died at the scene.

Irked over the incident, local villagers and commuters blocked the main road for over four hours demanding measures to prevent fatalities on road, compensation for the next of kin of the deceased and arresting of the errant truck driver.

Sources said the deceased, a native of Tablapur village and proprietor of a roadside eatery in Gaurangdih, was going towards Kankra More on a bicycle when a truck knocked him down from behind. The victim was dragged up to one kilometer as the driver tried to flee the scene.

Police confiscated the truck after chasing it to some distance. The driver managed to escape. Soon, a large number of villagers reached the Sadar Hospital and blocked the main road. They demanded that no entry timing should be implemented in Seraikela from 7 am to 10 am and from 1 pm to 4 pm every day.

SDPO Avinash Kumar, DSP Deepak Kumar and SDPO Sandeep Dubey reached the accident scene and tried to pacify the agitators. They assured to take up the road safety issue with various stakeholders and ensure safety for the people.
