Training Programme on Blood Safety kicks off

Jamshedpur, Nov 18: Three days training programme on Blood Safety for Staff Nurses working in
Blood Banks, Hospital and Public Health Centre of the different district organized by Jharkhand State AIDS Control Society in coordination with Jamshedpur Blood bank was inaugurated today by Surekha Nerurkar, Chairperson, Jamshedpur Blood Bank .

The training has been initiated with a purpose maintain uniformity amongst all the Blood banks as per the Drugs & Cosmetic Rules and National Blood Transfusion Council Guidelines.

The three days training module will cover all the aspects of blood banking from blood collection to disposal till the blood reaches the bedside of the patients. On the first day Dr Vinita Kamath, Medical officer of Jamshedpur Blood Bank
took all the sessions which covered donor selection, pre and post donation counseling, pre donation testing and demonstration on safe blood donation practice.

Any healthy person between the age group of 18-65 years is eligible to donate the blood within a gap of three months of previous donation subject to no serious ailment in the past.

Altogether 20 Staff Nurses covering 16 districts of Jharkhand are attending the programme.

Inaugurating the programme Surekha Nerurkar urged the participants to utilize the opportunity to get maximum knowledge from the deliberations by the faculty members.

Nalini Rammurthy, Hon. Secretary, Mrs. Raveen Duggal, Jt. Hon. Secretary, Jamshedpur Blood Bank too attended the inaugural session. Sanjay Choudhary, Administrator conducted the inaugural ceremony.

Rajnish Kumar, Senior Manager, Societies, Tata Steel coordinated the training programme with Jharkhand State AIDS Control Society.

On the second day the participant will be briefed on the basic principle of immunohematology and content of component and computability of blood.
